Africa Public Sector Human Resource Managers Network meets with Minister Amara Kallon – on ground preparedness for a planned summit to be held in Sierra Leone.

On a 3-days visit based on preparedness for the maiden summit of the Africa Public Sector Human Resource Managers Network, set to be hosted in Sierra Leone, the leadership of this acclaimed institution has on Thursday 28th January 2025 meets with Amara Kallon – Minister of Public Administration and Political Affairs.

In his remarks, the Minister expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Africa Public Sector Human Resource Managers Network for choosing Sierra Leone for the first time, as the host country for the 10th summit in the organization’s history.

In the same vein, he underscored the importance of the conference by disclosing that his Ministry is putting together mechanism, targeting private sector businesses and donor partners, to enhance local funding for the event, and he clearly assured all that the planned conference would be very professional in character and not political.

The Minister furthered by stating that the conference would be an eye-opener on best practices for Human Resource (HR) management, and informing all that MoPAPA as a Ministry, stands in Pillar 5 (Revamping the Public Service Architecture) of the Big 5 priorities of Government, as outlined in the 2024-2030 Medium-Term National Development (MTNDP).

The Honourable Minister went on to described that one of the key mandates of the Ministry is to have in place a strategic roadmap for public sector reform, for which HR administration plays an integral role, and he furthered by providing insights on some of the challenges associated with HR management which he said, cut across: the lack of required capacity; platform used; policy change, to matchup with the present trend of HR administration; gender and social inclusion; etc.

Minister Kallon acknowledged the challenges around HR management in Sierra Leone over the years, but however, he stated very clearly that, his Ministry is very much concerned on having an improved HR administration, and that such remains a priority for an accountable public service reform.

“The manifesto commitments of President Bio, brought to light the need for a holistic public service reform,” the Minister emphasized.

In his submission, Xavier M. Daudi who is the President of the Africa Public Sector Human Resource Managers Network – commended the Minister and the people of Sierra Leone, for the warm reception and furthered by emphasizing, the relevance of HR administration and the need for local initiatives around HR issues.

He assured briefing the Minister on the outcome of the preparedness visitation which include; the venue identified and the theme for the occasion.

James Wasagami – Deputy President Africa Public Sector Human Resource Managers Network, assured that the scheduled conference would bring together top human resource personnel, professors, and other career professionals.He also noted that the said conference goes beyond HR performance management - to taking the lead on public administration.

Perpetual N.O Lamptey, who is the Principal Manager, Human Resources for Ghana Railway Development Authority; advised on having in place a full-blown publicity and rebranding for the event - geared on targeting the required attendance for the event.
