The President of Sierra Leone, H.E. Dr. Julius Maada Bio, concluded the Annual Education Week 2024–2025 at UNIMAK in Makeni. The event featured cultural performances and the presentation of awards to the best NPSE, BECE and WASSCE students.
The President emphasized on education as a catalyst for national transformation, bridging socio-economic gaps, and driving sustainable growth. He also state that, the annual education week will be hosted on a rotational basis across regions to foster inclusivity and national participation.
He stressed the importance of integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into education responsibly, ensuring it serves as a tool to enhance human potential, not replace it.
The Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Dr. Ramatulai Wurie, highlighted
the role of AI in reshaping education by creating opportunities and addressing challenges.
Ongoing initiatives such as Open and Distance Learning policies, digital skills training, and ethical AI frameworks to ensure equitable and sustainable education systems
Plans for better internet connectivity across institutions and integrating assistive technologies for students with disabilities.
The development of AI tools by the University of Sierra Leone tailored for education.
The creation of a green technology car by the Eastern Technical University, demonstrating local innovation aligned with global sustainability goals. Collaboration between the Ministries of Basic, Secondary, and Technical Education to strengthen education framework, strengthening teacher training, especially in rural areas.
Enhancing STEM education, particularly for girls, and preparing youth for the demands of a modern economy.Expanding digital infrastructure to support inclusive and adaptive learning environments
The event underscored the Government's unwavering commitment to education as a cornerstone of national development, with a focus on innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability in the age of AI and automation.
