The Minister of Internal Affairs Morie Lengor Esq, has today welcomed the Chinese Ambassador Xing Qing and Team, during a courtesy visit at his office on bilateral cooperation.
The Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Sierra Leone, His Excellency Wang Qing said his visit was to underline the significance of the bilateral cooperation between the two Countries, applauding the Government for their sustainable support of their cooperation on the protection of Chinese Community in Sierra Leone. He expressed grattitude for the Ministry's continuous support to his Embassy and also highlighted major achievements of China's cooperation in varrious spheres, like infrastructure in the national stadium,Youyi Building and the Foreign Service Academy among others.
This according to the Ambassador will provide strategic guidance for their bilateral relations. Ambassador Qing also discussed foreign investments projects with a particular focus to contributes to Sierra Leone's employment and revenue generating. He elaborated on the issue of capacity building and collaboration of enforcement between China and other key institutions.
He appreciated the Ministry for their close and fruitful working relationship and expressed optimism for a shared future of mutual development and prosperity, reaffirming China's commitment to deepening China - Africa cooperation that will benefit the two Countries.
In his response, Minister Lengor Esq, on behalf of the President, His Excellency Brig. Rtd Julius Maada Bio, expressed sincere gratitude to Ambassador Wang Qing for his visit and appreciated China for their numerous support over the years. He said the comprehensive review of their strategic relationship with China has spanned over decades, acknowledging the extensive effort involved in driving this valuable bilateral cooperation. He cited the long process leading up to further tightening the cooperation between the two Countries. He informed the Ambassador about the Agencies and Departments under his Ministry's purview, and underscored his vision in developing a Strategic Master Plan, which will guide the Ministry in service delivery.
He disclosed that the SMP is now in the process of its final draft as inputs has been made by all heads of Agencies and Departments, noting that external consultations and partners support would be solicited.
Minister Lengor Esq, however emphasised on the importance of the strategic bilateral cooperation between the two Countries. He stated that China's investment are visible in supporting them, but however noted that the protection of those investments falls on them as a Ministry being charged with the responsibility of Internal security. He added that to ensure the stability and security of the investment, there should be a symbiotic relationship between the investments and security sector.
The Minister furher expanded his discussions in seeking for support for his Ministry and its Agencies in possible areas like mobiilty, logistical and equipment to particularly the National Fireforce to enable them to promptly respond to fire incidents and other security related issues. He however, concluded pledging his Ministry's close collaboration and support to the Embassy, assuring them of a better and fruitful relationship.
The two sides had an in-depth and fruitful engagement on bilateral cooperation and relations, as the meeting climaxed with the presentation of gift from Ambassador Qing to Minister Lengor Esq, in recognition of his appointment.
