Chinese Embassy Engages Ministry of Public Administration and Political Affairs on Upcoming South-South Triangular Cooperation Conference
Freetown, April 8, 2025 (SLENA) – The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Sierra Leone has engaged the Ministry of Public Administration and Political Affairs (MoPAPA) ahead of the upcoming Third High-Level South-South Triangular Cooperation (SSTrC) Conference, slated to take place in Freetown from May 7 to 9, 2025.
During a high-level meeting held on Monday, April 7, 2025, the Honourable Minister of Public Administration and Political Affairs, Amara Kallon, welcomed Dr. Xia Yinyin, First Secretary of the Chinese Embassy, to discuss China’s support and participation in the landmark event.
Themed “Forging Good Governance and Economic Resilience to Foster Africa’s Integration and Agenda 2063,” the conference is expected to convene Heads of State, former Heads of State, development partners, civil society, youth groups, women’s organisations, and private sector leaders to deliberate on governance, economic resilience, and sustainable development across Africa.
Minister Kallon emphasised Sierra Leone’s pride in hosting the third edition of the SSTrC for the first time, following previous hosts Egypt and Uganda. He noted that the event would be a strategic platform to attract investment, spotlight youth-led innovation and entrepreneurship, and strengthen multilateral partnerships.
He further revealed that six Heads of State from Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, Tanzania, Algeria, and Egypt are expected to attend the high-level gathering. Highlighting China’s longstanding collaboration with Sierra Leone, Minister Kallon appealed for both financial and technical support from the Chinese Government. He also disclosed that a special session will showcase China’s cooperation and development initiatives in Sierra Leone.
In response, Dr. Xia Yinyin reaffirmed China’s commitment to the principles of South-South cooperation, noting that China is one of the most significant contributors to SSTrC globally. She expressed the Chinese Government’s readiness to actively participate and support the upcoming conference.
The event is expected to feature critical discussions on resource mobilisation, regional integration, and sustainable development frameworks as part of efforts to advance the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
