Chinese Embassy Hosts Media Engagement to Reinforce 55-Year Sierra Leone Partnership

Ambassador Zhao Yong welcomed print and electronic media practitioners to the Chinese Embassy Open Day at Spur Loop, Wilberforce, Freetown. Sierra Leone Association of Journalists President joined other attendees at last week’s diplomatic engagement.
Zhao recalled five decades of strategic cooperation across multiple development sectors between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Sierra Leone. The ambassador encouraged the press to document successful joint projects, reaffirming China’s continued support commitment.
Trade figures revealed a US$2.3 billion bilateral exchange value for 2025, with nearly 38% growth recorded during the first half of 2026. Ongoing discussions target increased palm oil, coffee and cocoa exports from Sierra Leone.
Documentary screenings illustrated long-term collaboration in education, culture and infrastructure. Journalists delivered presentations on Chinese development experiences, emphasizing accurate storytelling about China’s progress trajectory.
