ComSIL Capacitates Staff Capacity in Financial Management and Resource Mobilization

Freetown, July 24, 2026 (SLENA)-The Community of Solidarity to Improve Lives in Sierra Leone (ComSIL), led by Founder and Team Lead Alpha Bakarr Barrie, has concluded one-day staff capacity-building training on financial management and resource mobilization, strengthening institutional accountability, financial stewardship, and organizational sustainability.

The training, held Friday at ComSIL headquarters in Mambureh, Calaba Town, formed part of the Youth Action for Good Governance and Self-Resilience project, implemented with support from ActionAid Sierra Leone and the Centre for Coordination of Youth Activities (CCYA).

The session aimed to strengthen staff knowledge and skills in sound financial management, effective resource mobilization, and responsible use of project resources to promote transparency, accountability, and long-term organizational growth.

Facilitator Moses Komuwa of the Education for All Coalition delivered an in-depth presentation on the principles and value of sound financial management in organizations. He said effective financial systems rest on efficiency, effectiveness, equity, value for money, accountability, and compliance with established financial laws and regulations.

Komuwa also highlighted the key responsibilities of finance departments, noting their central role in tracking financial performance, maintaining sound management practices, monitoring expenditure, and supporting the approval and implementation of annual budgets.

He described the budget as the backbone of every successful organization, stressing that effective planning, prudent spending, and comprehensive financial reporting remain essential to credibility and sustainability.

Speaking on resource mobilization, Komuwa underscored its importance in securing both financial and non-financial support needed for development interventions. He encouraged participants to explore innovative and sustainable strategies for mobilizing resources to strengthen ComSIL’s operations and expand its community impact.

The interactive session gave staff members space to share experiences, exchange ideas, and raise questions on financial procedures, budgeting, reporting, and organizational resource management. Participants said stronger understanding of financial management would improve accountability and support more effective programme delivery.

The training ended with participants reaffirming their commitment to applying the knowledge and skills gained to advance transparency, responsible financial stewardship, and effective resource mobilization in support of the organization’s mission. Staff members later posed for group photograph to mark the successful close of the session.

The initiative reflects ComSIL’s continued commitment to staff development and stronger institutional systems that support sustainable community development across Sierra Leone.
