Consolidating the Energy Gains....Managing Director and Head of Africa for British International Investment Pays Courtesy Call on Energy Sector Lead,Shares BII's Investment Endeavours in Sierra Leon.

Ministry of Energy Conference Room,Wednesday April 2, 2025----- The Managing Director and Head of Africa for British International Investment,BII,Chris Chris Chijiutomi,together with other members of the team,has paid a courtesy call on Energy Sector Lead,Dr. Kandeh Yumkella,where he shared BII's Investment endeavours in the country.

He said he was happy to engage the Sector Lead and his team at the Ministry while reaffirming the commitment of his institution to supporting Sierra Leone's energy aspirations.

Chris Chijiutomi informed Dr. Yumkella about the investment with Ecobank and other interventions, adding that his institution had invested over US $ 100 million in projects including but not limited to Miro Forestry.

Responding,Dr. Kandeh Yumkella catalogued a number of generation challenges that the sector was faced with,noting that Freetown was the hardest hit.

He informed the visiting team that the city of Freetown relies heavily on Karpowership for electricity supply,adding that the drop in the water levels at Bumbuna had seriously compounded the electricity situation in the city .

The Energy Sector Lead told the team that the sector had devised short-term,medium-term,and long-term strategies to address such concerns and had aligned such policies and strategies with the overall policy objective and vision of President Bio.

He encouraged private sector investments in the sector and assured BII that the government was committed to providing the enabling environment for investments in the energy sector.

With the energy sector and the Feed Salone agenda being inextricably linked,reforms continue in the sector.
