In a major boost to youth rehabilitation efforts, Don Bosco Fambul has officially handed over technical training materials to the Ministry of Social Welfare for the Approved School.
The ceremony, held on October 8, 2025, marked a milestone in advancing practical skills training for young offenders.
The event was chaired by the former Officer-in-Charge of the Approved School, Mr. Idrissa, who expressed deep appreciation to the Hon. Deputy Minister of Social Welfare and Don Bosco Fambul, particularly its Director, Reverend Father Edwin Tangie.
He recalled years of advocacy to introduce vocational programs at the school, which had previously focused only on formal education.
He commended Don Bosco Fambul for consistently providing teaching materials and support to the institution’s unpaid staff.
In his remarks, Reverend Father Edwin Tangie outlined the objectives of the initiative, emphasizing Don Bosco Fambul’s mission to rehabilitate and empower marginalized youth, including those in detention.
He noted that the organization had provided starter kits for three vocational disciplines—carpentry, tailoring, and agricultur to help the young residents acquire employable skills and reintegrate into society as productive citizens.
“This program is a preventive measure against re-offending,” Father Tangie said, disclosing that over five thousand dollars had been invested in the initiative.
A representative of the donor partners, Mr. Matias, commended Don Bosco Fambul for its strong partnership and reiterated his organization’s commitment to supporting youth empowerment globally and locally
Delivering the Keynote address on behalf of the Minister of Social Welfare, Mrs Melrose Karminty, the Deputy Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Haji Kella, praised Don Bosco Fambul’s longstanding contribution to youth development, particularly since the post-war period.
He described the project as aligned with the Government’s “ Big Five Game Changers” human capital development agenda and the “Feed Salone” initiative, which seeks to create 500,000 jobs by 2030.
“Development is not only about academic learning but also about practical skills,” the Deputy Minister said, adding that the training in tailoring, carpentry, and agriculture would help transform the lives of young offenders and prepare them to become future managers in their fields.
To ensure accountability and sustainability, the Deputy Minister instructed the current Officer-in-Charge of the Approved School to submit monthly reports on the use of the materials to the Ministry.
He emphasized that the initiative represents a tangible step toward rehabilitation and reintegration for children in conflict with the law.
