Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Alhaji Timothy Musa Kabba, has officially donated DSTV and high-speed internet connectivity for the Mass Media Faculty at Fourah Bay College. The occasion, which took place at the Faculty of Mass Communication, Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, on February 20, 2026, aims to revolutionize media training by bridging the information gap for aspiring journalists.
The facilities that were donated will grant students unrestricted access to international news and research databases. Minister Kabba underlined the necessity of equipping future media professionals with reliable information sources. Only through global awareness, he argued, can journalists cultivate balanced perspectives and contribute meaningfully to national and international discourse.
During the ceremony, Minister Kabba detailed the structure and mandate of his Ministry under Section 10 (c) of Sierra Leone’s 1991 Constitution. Responsibilities include multilateral representation, mediation in regional disputes, treaty reviews, and safeguarding national interests worldwide. He described the Ministry as the central mechanism upholding a rules-based international order and supporting multilateralism.
Reflecting on history, Minister Kabba recalled the Second World War’s devastating toll, which spurred the creation of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. Regarding the United Nations, he noted its foundational role in maintaining peace and security, yet highlighted the concentrated decision-making power held by just fifteen of its 193 member states through the Security Council.
Faculty members and students hailed the donation as transformative. Reliable internet and DSTV connectivity will significantly enhance research capabilities and learning outcomes. The initiative promises to produce globally conscious journalists capable of representing Sierra Leone effectively on international platforms.
