Africell Sierra Leone Chief Executive Officer, Shadi Gerjawi, has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to putting customers at the centre of its operations, saying the views and experiences of customers remain critical to how the telecommunications company develops its products and services. Speaking during Africell’s Customer Experience (ACE) Media Tour, Gerjawi said the telecommunications industry is constantly changing because the needs of customers continue to evolve. He explained that Africell therefore makes deliberate efforts to go into communities and engage customers directly to understand what they want and the challenges they face.
Gerjawi said Africell’s customer-focused approach is not a new practice, noting that the company has been engaging customers for the past five years through regular outreach programmes. He said the ACE initiative brings together Africell’s directors, managers and staff to radio and television stations, markets, streets and other public spaces to explain the company’s products and services while listening to customer concerns. “It doesn’t matter what product we have; if the customers are not happy with it, it means we don’t have a good product,” he said, stressing that customer feedback often returns the company to the office with a list of issues that need attention.
The CEO also highlighted Africell’s focus on innovation and accessibility, pointing to the company’s introduction of technologies and services including 3G, 4G, its work towards 5G, Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH), Afrimoney and its partnership with Sierratel through a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) arrangement. He also referenced initiatives such as KidZone, designed to help children stay safer online, and Africell’s partnership with the Milton Margai School for the Blind. According to Gerjawi, these initiatives form part of the company’s effort to remain reliable, innovative and responsive to the changing needs of Sierra Leoneans.
The ACE Media Tour, held nationwide on Thursday, 13 August, provided another avenue for that customer-first philosophy to be put into practice. Through live radio and television conversations, Africell teams engaged customers and the wider public on its products and services, Afrimoney, recruitment opportunities, corporate social responsibility programmes and expansion plans. The tour also gave customers the opportunity to ask questions, raise concerns and receive direct responses from company representatives.
For Africell, the ACE is therefore more than a media engagement; it is a continuing conversation with the people who use its services. Gerjawi said the company would continue to seek feedback and improve its offerings, with the aim of providing reliable and affordable services. After more than two decades of operating in Sierra Leone, Africell says its position has been built on customer trust, value for money, innovation and a commitment to listening principles the company hopes will continue to shape its relationship with customers across the country. If Customers Are Not Happy, We Don’t Have a Good Product — Shadi Gerjawi -CEO Africell Sierra Leone
