MILTON MARGAI TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY REPRESENTS SIERRA LEONE AT EU-FUNDED “SLEEK” PROJECT LAUNCH IN SPAIN.

Milton Margai Technical University (MMTU) is proudly participating in the official launch of the Sierra Leone Education in Entrepreneurial Pedagogy and Skills (SLEEK) Project in Alicante, Spain. The four-day event, held from May 6 to 9, brings together higher education institutions from Sierra Leone and Europe to revolutionise entrepreneurial education and address youth unemployment.

MMTU joins a strong Sierra Leonean delegation that includes representatives from the University of Sierra Leone/Institute of Public Administration and Management (USL/IPAM), University of Makeni (UNIMAK), and the University of Management and Technology (UNIMTECH). The initiative is co-funded by the European Union and is hosted by the University of Alicante, a key partner in the project.

The SLEEK Project is designed to enhance pedagogical approaches, equip students with entrepreneurial skills, and ultimately foster job creation. Through a blend of capacity building, innovation, and collaboration, the project aligns with Sierra Leone’s national priorities on youth empowerment and human capital development.

Speaking on behalf of MMTU, Vice Chancellor Professor Philip John Kanu is scheduled to moderate a high-level roundtable on May 8 titled “How to Innovate in Teaching Entrepreneurship.” The session will convene thought leaders and academics from across Europe and Africa to exchange ideas on strengthening entrepreneurial curricula and promoting graduates who are job-ready.

Throughout the launch, participants will engage in sessions that cover project expectations, implementation tools, and quality assurance mechanisms. The programme reflects a shared commitment to long-term educational reform and sustainable development outcomes for Sierra Leone.

As the SLEEK Project takes shape, the active involvement of MMTU and its partner institutions marks a significant step toward modernising Sierra Leone’s higher education landscape and opening new horizons for the country’s youth.
