Minister of Internal Affairs Commends the National Fire Force for their Swift Intervention to put out the fire at State House.


Following the recent fire outbreak at State House on Saturday, 12the April, 2025, the Minister of Internal Affairs Rtd AIG Morie Lengor Esq, has expressed thanks and appreciation to the leadership and staff of the National Fire Force for their swift intervention to put out the fire, and their commendable response to prevent further damage to the building, not withstanding the intensity of the fire.


*_"I am here on behalf of the President His Excellency Brig Rtd Julius Maada Bio not just to thank you but to commend you for your good work"._The Minister said.


He further stated that despite their challenges of Manpower strength and equipment, they have been able to work hard to fight so many fire incidents around the Country. He also appealed to them to keep on the good work and exercise patient, while Government look into their challenges including their welfare.


The Minister also used the occassion to expressed gratitude to other government agencies, the National Disaster Management Agency, the Sierra Leone Police, the Guma Valley Water Company, the Office of National Security and the Sierra Leone Armed Forces among others, for their coordinated emergency response to the unfortunate incident.


Minister Lengor Esq, particularly commended the CFO for personally leading his personnel from the front at that critical moment. He noted that this incident is a wake up call, and called on the public to be very vigilant in taking fire preventive measures very seriously. He disclosed that the Ministry and the Fire Force are working on a Policy and a Bill to make the Fire Force more effective and efficient, and to even transform it into a Fire Service.


During the engagement the Chief Fire officer Nazir Alie Kamanda Bongay highlighted the numerous challenges faced by the NFF, interms of operations ranging from Manpower and equipment among others.


CFO Bongay concluded by pleading with the Minister to look into their challenges and concerns to enable them discharge their mandates more effectively.


The Minister responded assuring that their issues will be looked into and address accordingly.
