aunched the Sierra Leone Police Strategic Development Plan (SDP) (2025 - 2029), under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The event held at the Sierra Leone Foreign Service Academy, Conference room on Tower Hill in Freetown, saw significant participation from prominent stakeholders from all walks of life, to witness the occassion.
In his keynote address, while launching the SDP, (2025-2029), the Minister of Internal Affairs expressed appreciation to the UNDP Team on behalf of His Excellency the President Brig Rtd Julius Maada Bio, and lauded praises on IGP Fayia Sellu for his enduring and enviable legacy to make the SLP an effective,efficient and professional service that they as a nation can be very proud of. He duly informed the gathering that his Ministry supervises the SLP, the institution responsible for maintaining the internal security of the Country, adding that the SDP will be a guide to help citizens to know which direction the SLP is moving in discharging their roles and responsibilities, which will also hold them accountable and be transparent in delivering their mandates.
One thing I have heard that slanders my heart is the role of your staff in the development of the strategy, and that you took full ownership of the process through which many others have learnt and upskilled their skill in developing the SDP. This is what our President means when he keeps talking about Human Capital Development Minister Lengor Esq, asserted.
Concluding, the Minister assured the police that tremendous effort will be made in ensuring that the SLP is adequately resourced in order to roll-out the SDP effectively.
According to IGP Sellu, the idea of the (SDP) is to serve as a roadmap to where they want to take the SLP, which tends to transition from a Force to a Service. He stated that the SDP is to as well represents the contributions, feedbacks, views and protection of the general populace, partners, Civil Society Organizations, officers and staff, and to as well step towards shaping and positioning the institution for the many challenges its faces now and in the future, as it is to transition from a Force to a Service. He announced that the SDP will clearly show their vision, mission, core values and their mandates in the next four years.The IGP noted that the SDP is anchored on the big five Game Changer of His Excellency the President, among other platforms, to foster national development.
The UNDP Resident Coordinator Mr. Frederick Ampiah said he is gratified with the exceptional leadership and lobbying power of the Minister of Internal Affairs Morie Lengor Esq, to extend their support to other Agencies which has given him more excitment to commit to supporting the SLP, through the MIA. He stated that the path to launch the SDP was followed by series of regional consultations and discussions, with Stakeholders inputs into this very important document. Noting that the implementation of the SDP is to deepen partnership with the Government of Sierra Leone. He however noted that the aim of the SDP is to help in shaping the SLP in Service delivery.
