The Ministry Of Gender and Children's Affairs and partners convened their third coordination and planning meeting for the upcoming international women's day on March 8th, 2025.
The discussion brought both officials from the ministry such as director of gender Ms Goodie Sowonie, Assistant director Mr. BamieSesay, participants from YACAN, UN Women, Amnesty international, Rainbo initiative and other key development partners to give meaningful insights for the event.
Director Goodie Sowonie quickly touched on the previous planning meeting held with a recap towards strategic planning for a successful outcome of the event. In her opening remarks, she stressed on the year's logistics such as funds for the t-shirts, banners, and other equipment needed for the event which will be commemorated in Bo City.
She gave a recollection of the planning activities, as strategies for the event such as a two-day dialogue program with community engagement leaders before the event. She also echoed a strong voice for the mobilization of resources from development partners in order for it to becomea memorableevent.
Transportation, logistics, and other costs are included in the funding. "We need partners to chip in this area" she emphasized, as she ended her address by encouraging participants to share their concerns and recommendations for the event.
Assistant Director Mr. BamieSesay wrapped up by reaffirming the responsibilities of subcommittee groups as they are important in this year's activities and planning schemes. He talks about this year's IWD which will focused on showcasing the achievements of success stories of GVB and SGBV across the country. Bamie spoke about preliminary programs which will be held prior to the event such as the press conference, media engagement, policy dialogue with community leaders and stakeholders, jingles, and the use of mobile networks to disseminate key information to the public about IWD.
Participants also shared their viewpoints and suggestions for the planning activities especially the preliminary engagement with community leaders and media visibility. The colour of t-shirts was also discussed, and other activities to shape and mould the event for its commemoration.
The meeting ended with AOB and Q&A session where participants ask questions about the mechanisms for the event before it kicks off.
