The Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE) has officially launched its Service Charter, a strategic initiative to enhance transparency, accountability, and service delivery in technical and higher education institutions across Sierra Leone. The launch event was held at the MTHE Headquarters, Sababu Building, on 10 February 2024.
Speaking at the event, Chief Technical and Higher Education Officer Dr Josephus Brimah emphasised the significance of the Service Charter in driving institutional reform and improving service standards within the education sector.
“Today, we are proud to launch the Service Charter of the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education. Over the years, we have worked tirelessly to bring this vision to reality, and by the end of last year, we finalised the necessary frameworks. This is a moment of celebration, as our Minister of Technical and Higher Education will now have the singular honour of unveiling this remarkable initiative, which will play a key role in transforming technical and higher education in Sierra Leone.”
In her keynote address, Minister of Technical and Higher Education Dr. Ramatulai Wurie underscored the importance of the Service Charter in fostering efficiency and accountability within the education sector.
“The Service Charter serves as an essential tool to inform the public about the services we offer. It outlines our mission, vision, and mandate, ensuring that the general public is aware of our commitments. More importantly, it allows the public to hold us accountable for the services we provide. This initiative extends beyond the Ministry to include universities, technical institutes, and government technical institutions, ensuring that transparency and accountability are upheld across the sector.”
Dr. Wurie further expressed gratitude to the World Bank for its generous funding, which facilitated the successful development and launch of the Service Charter.
“We appreciate the support of the World Bank, which graciously funded this initiative. By the end of last year, we had completed all necessary work, and today, we are pleased to unveil this Service Charter to the public.”
The launch of the Service Charter marks a significant milestone in the Ministry’s efforts to enhance governance, accessibility, and efficiency within the education sector. The initiative is expected to benefit students, educators, and the public by promoting a more responsive and accountable education system.
