The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs held a vibrant cultural event in anticipation of the upcoming Women in Tourism Regional Congress, which will be held from 29th to 31st October 2024 at the Freetown International Conference Centre. The event, themed "Empowerment through Education, Innovation, and Access to Finance," served as a prelude to the congress, offering a glimpse into what participants can expect.
The Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Hon. Nabeela Tunis, Deputy Minister Dr. Kadijatu Grace Kamara, ministry officials, and agency representatives demonstrated their preparedness for the forthcoming event. Symbolic drum beats echoed through the venue, calling on citizens nationwide to attend the regional congress and partake in discussions and activities to promote women's empowerment in tourism.
During the event, a variety of cultural performances were showcased, celebrating Sierra Leone's rich cultural heritage. Highlights included captivating performances by the National Dance Troupe, the Reggae Union Sierra Leone, and the Gymnastics Association. Minister Nabeela Tunis also led the ceremonial cake-cutting, marking the ministry's commitment to the congress's success and emphasizing its importance.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Kwame Yankson, reiterated that the event is a celebration and a call to action, inviting everyone to participate in the Women in Tourism Regional Congress. The event aims to foster education, innovation, and access to finance for women in the tourism sector, aligning with the ministry's mission to promote tourism as a collective national responsibility.
