Marking World Water Day on March 22, 2026, Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation stood in solidarity with the global community, embracing the theme “Water and Gender, where water flows, equality grows.”
Safe water access constitutes a fundamental human right. It serves as a formidable catalyst for gender equality, human dignity, and sustainable development. Within Sierra Leonean communities, women and girls bear disproportionate burdens stemming from water scarcity. The Ministry reaffirms its commitment to delivering inclusive, equitable, and enduring water services designed to uplift every citizen.
Collaborative efforts with partners remain focused on expanding infrastructure, reinforcing institutional systems, and empowering local communities. Priority targets those often relegated to the margins. This observance serves as a call to action for all stakeholders: prioritize water as the cornerstone of equality, communal resilience, and national advancement.
