The Ministry of Youth Affairs (MOYA), in partnership with Future Farms, has officially launched the establishment of the Agri-Tech Center of Excellence for Youths at the Masiaka Youth Farm, marking a significant step toward transforming Sierra Leone’s agricultural sector.
The symbolic launch attracted strong community participation, including Paramount Chief Bomboli and his delegation, Masiaka Women Leaders, and young people from across the district.
The Center is set to become a hub for modern agricultural practices, featuring greenhouses, advanced irrigation systems, and climate-smart farming technologies.
The Minister of Youth Affairs, Ibrahim Sannoh, in his statement stressed that, the initiative goes beyond farming and it is about empowering young people with the skills, tools, and confidence to drive innovation and boost food security.
The Centre, he said would also roll out extensive capacity-building programs, starting with mixed cropping (including vegetables, peppers, maize, and rice) and poultry farming and that, all programs would be inclusive, with opportunities for youth from diverse backgrounds, including persons with special needs.
“This is about giving our young people the skills, tools, and confidence to feed the nation and drive innovation in agriculture,” Minister Sannoh stated.
He extended gratitude to President Julius Maada Bio for his continued commitment to youth empowerment through agriculture combining technology, training, and hands-on farming.
The Agri-Tech Center of Excellence, Mr Sannoh said, is poised to become a game-changer for youth employment and sustainable food production in Sierra Leone.
