Kono District. The Diego Gonzalez Rivas Foundation has launched its renowned state-of-the-art Mobile Surgery Truck in Kono District, marking a groundbreaking step in expanding access to advanced surgical services for the people of Sierra Leone.
The initiative, led by internationally acclaimed thoracic surgeon Dr. Diego Gonzalez Rivas, aims to deliver specialized surgical care directly to underserved communities in the district.
The ceremony, held at the Koidu Government Hospital, brought together government officials, healthcare professionals, local leaders, and international partners.
The Mobile Surgery Truck, equipped with modern facilities, provides free surgical services for three days to patients facing challenges in accessing care in Koidu city and surrounding areas.
The launch underscores the ongoing efforts of the Minister of Health, Dr. Austin Demby, to enhance healthcare delivery, strengthen partnerships with international medical experts, and ensure that quality medical services are accessible to all citizens, regardless of their location.
Crowning the day’s event was a goodwill gesture from Vice President Dr. Mohammed Juldeh Jalloh, who, through the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, donated several bags of rice to all volunteers at the Koidu Government Hospital.
The donation was warmly received as a token of appreciation for the dedication and hard work of healthcare volunteers supporting life-saving services in the district.
