MoPED Seeks NLe40.73 Billion for FY2027 to Drive National Development Priorities.

Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED) presented the proposed FY2027 budget of NLe40,734.828 million against a ceiling of NLe17,637.500 million during ongoing Bilateral Budget Discussions at the Miatta Civic Centre, Freetown.

Acting Development Secretary Usman Conteh led the presentation, highlighting the Ministry's mandate priorities for the 2027 financial year. He said the budget process is important for promoting accountability, strengthening development coordination, and ensuring national resources contribute to improved citizen services.

FY2027, MoPED identified key deliverables, including Public Investment Management Information System development and operationalisation across MDAs and Local Councils, updating sector strategic plans to align with the Medium-Term National Development Plan (MTNDP), and conducting donor mapping and harmonisation of development assistance. Ministry also plans to strengthen public investment management and development coordination.

Conteh outlined the Ministry's projected 2027 revenue of NLe3,258.672 million, acknowledging international development partners' contribution to programmes improving citizens' lives. He further highlighted the Ministry's ongoing role in coordinating development programmes, investment planning, and monitoring implementation nationwide.

The session, chaired by Dr Illara E. Mahdi, Deputy Director, Budget, Ministry of Finance, brought government officials and stakeholders together. Following discussions and responses to questions on development coordination, Local Councils, and project implementation, the presentation moved to the next stage: consideration for adoption.
