MTHE Bids Farewell to 33 Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Awardees.

The Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE) officially bade farewell to 33 Sierra Leonean students who were awarded the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship to pursue undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral studies in Hungary.

The ceremony which was held at the Ministry’s Conference Room, Sababu Building, New England Ville, brought together senior Ministry officials, parents, and the scholarship awardees.

The Student Secretary at MTHE, George A. Dambo noted that 50 candidates were initially nominated, with 33 ultimately selected for the scholarship.

He highlighted that the package includes tuition fees and a monthly allowance to support living expenses, while encouraging students to manage their funds wisely.

Madam Fatmata Kaiwa, Director of Science and Technology, congratulated the students for excelling in a rigorous selection process and reminded them that they are ambassadors of Sierra Leone.

She cautioned against involvement in local politics or activities that could compromise their stay abroad.

Similarly, Emmanuel J. Momoh Esq., Director of Higher Education, emphasized the exclusivity of the opportunity, urging students to focus on their studies, carry themselves with dignity, and represent their families, the Ministry, and Sierra Leone with excellence.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister, Dr. Josephus Brimah, Chief Technical and Higher Education Officer, advised students to be mindful of the cultural and academic challenges in Hungary.

He stressed the importance of respecting local laws, upholding academic integrity, avoiding plagiarism, and supporting one another throughout their studies.

Scholarship recipient Samuel Flo Mokuwa, who will pursue a Master’s in Pharmacy at the University of Pécs, expressed gratitude on behalf of his peers.

He highlighted that, out of nearly 800 applicants, only 33 were selected, describing it as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

He pledged that they are committed to raising Sierra Leone’s flag high, acquiring world-class knowledge, and returning home to contribute to national development, particularly in healthcare and pharmaceutical services.
