MTHE Hosts Chinese Delegation to Deepen Bilateral Cooperation.

The Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE) has held a high-level meeting with a visiting delegation from the Anhui Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) to explore expanded cooperation in higher education, technology, and skills development.

The delegation was led by Zheng Hong, Vice Chairperson of the Anhui CPPCC, who said their visit aims to strengthen ties and open new avenues for collaboration between Sierra Leone and Anhui Province. He highlighted Anhui’s strong economic and technological profile—its vibrant research culture, robust network of universities, and rapidly growing industries such as new energy vehicles and artificial intelligence. He also pointed out the province’s advanced transportation systems and popular tourism destinations.

Zheng noted that Anhui maintains active partnerships across various countries and hosts numerous international companies, while many Anhui-based firms operate abroad. He added that the delegation would extend its stay in Sierra Leone by one day to further explore opportunities and determine areas where meaningful support can be provided.

MTHE Minister, Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, warmly welcomed the delegation and commended China for its longstanding support to Sierra Leone through scholarships, capacity-building programs, and institutional partnerships. She referenced ongoing cooperation, including an existing Memorandum of Understanding with the China University of Geosciences in Wuhan.

Dr. Wurie emphasized that strengthening technology, innovation, and digital transformation aligns with President Julius Maada Bio’s national development priorities. She highlighted the Ministry’s interest in securing Chinese support for university digitalization, smart classrooms, joint research initiatives, staff and student exchanges, and broader innovation-driven projects.

The meeting concluded with both parties expressing a strong desire to expand collaboration in education, research, and emerging technologies, reinforcing the shared commitment to deepening Sierra Leone–China bilateral relations.
