National Anti-Corruption Strategy Meets with Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources.

The National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) held a significant meeting with the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources on Wednesday 5th February 2025 to discuss integrity measures and collaboration in combating corruption within the sector.

The meeting, which commenced at 10:00 AM with prayers and individual introductions, was opened by Mr. Edward D. Mansaray, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry. He welcomed the NACS team in his remarks, stating, "We are not afraid because you are here to do your job, and we always want to act with integrity." He further inquired about the purpose of their visit.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Director of the NACS Secretariat, Zainab Otenma, highlighted that a new strategy plan had been launched in 2024. She noted that it had been a year since the last engagement with the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources. She stressed the importance of measuring progress in implementing integrity strategies. She emphasised that the NACS team was present to prevent corruption, uphold integrity, and promote effective collaboration with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). Additionally, she urged ministry staff to encourage their colleagues to declare their assets as part of transparency measures.

Mr. Montfort Okeke Macaulay, Implementation Analyst at NACS, expressed his enthusiasm about working with the ministry. He promised to develop a warm relationship with the ministry and inquired whether they had the ACC strategy plan. Upon learning that the ministry did not have it, he pledged to provide a copy. He further recommended that each department should have a representative in the integrity committee and stressed the need for quarterly meetings, with minutes shared with him to track key outcomes.

Concluding the meeting, Mr. Edward Mansaray thanked the NACS team, emphasizing the importance of following due processes to uphold integrity. He reiterated that all efforts should be directed toward the development of Sierra Leone.
