Pikin Tab Programme Staff Trained Ahead of School Reopening

As schools get set to reopen, staff of the Pikin Tab Learning Programme have completed a two-day training and orientation exercise aimed at strengthening their capacity to effectively implement the programme.

The training was conducted with support from Imagine Worldwide, in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Sierra Leone. It brought together newly recruited and existing staff from the various districts where the programme is being implemented.

The orientation focused on strengthening participants’ understanding of programme management, implementation standards, institutional policies, as well as their specific roles and responsibilities in ensuring the successful delivery of the Pikin Tab Learning Programme.

The training provided an opportunity for staff to build their knowledge and skills in key areas necessary for effective programme implementation. Sessions facilitated by heads of various departments covered safeguarding, financial management and documentation, procurement and logistics, information technology, communication, reporting and report writing, and general programme implementation.

One of the major highlights of the training was the practical session on the proper management and use of Pikin Tab tablets and headsets. Participants were trained on the correct handling, protection and maintenance of the devices, including how to identify and troubleshoot common technical problems, report faults, and ensure that the equipment remains functional and accessible to both pupils and teachers.

The training also placed strong emphasis on asset and inventory management. Staff were reminded of the importance of maintaining accurate records and ensuring the proper allocation, custody, movement and monitoring of programme devices.

These measures are considered essential to protecting programme resources, promoting accountability and ensuring that every tablet and headset is properly managed and remains available to support teaching and learning.

With the completion of the orientation, staff are expected to apply the knowledge and skills acquired to support the effective implementation of the Pikin Tab Learning Programme and contribute to improved learning outcomes for children across the programme’s implementation districts.
