Police Confirm Adopted Son Suspect in Killing of Lecturer Catherine Kamanda.

Sierra Leone Police have named Goodluck Nicol, adopted son of slain lecturer Mrs. Catherine Valentina Kamanda, as the primary suspect in her death.

Mrs. Kamanda, a lecturer at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS) and wife of the Mines Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, was killed on the night of February 8, 2026, at the family residence in Goderich.

An official police press release issued February 11, 2026, confirmed Nicol allegedly confessed to striking Mrs. Kamanda on the head with a pestle. Authorities have since clarified that the incident was not a robbery, contrary to earlier reports. Nicol is currently assisting police with ongoing investigations.

The development has sent reactions through the nation, particularly given that Mrs. Kamanda had reportedly cared for the suspect for many years. Her husband, who was abroad on official government duty in South Africa, is on route home.

Colleagues, family members, and civil society groups continue demanding justice. Mrs. Kamanda is remembered for her contributions to medical education, faith-based initiatives, and community service.

Police have appealed to the public for any additional information that may assist the investigation.
