The Public Sector Reform Unit, PSRU, has presented the draft MFR report for the Sport Sector at the National Consultative Conference at Lakka.

In his statement, the Chief of Programmes PSRU, Mr. Albert Williams, expressed appreciation for PSRU’s recognition in this important national dialogue and commended the Ministry of Sports for their strides in transforming the sector.

He emphasized that such progress can only be sustained through platforms that enable stakeholders to critically examine the Ministry’s performance and chart a development-driven path forward.

Mr. Williams highlighted that the conference theme aligns with the government’s Medium-Term National Development Plan (MTNDP), particularly Cluster 3, which focuses on youth employment, this he says has the power of transforming young people into drivers of innovation and national development.

He encouraged Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to fully support the ongoing Sectoral Management and Functional Review (MFR), noting that it will help realign the sector’s delivery approach to the government’s new policy priorities.

He further explained that the MFR seeks to assess the Ministry’s achievements, identify constraints, and propose actionable recommendations.

In her keynote address, the Minister of Sports, Ms. Augusta James-Teima, welcomed participants and underscored the importance of the conference as a landmark for the sports sector.

She stressed the significance of reviewing key documents such as the National Sports Policy and the ongoing MFR by PSRU.

She noted that funding remains one of the sector’s major challenges and called for stronger collaboration among all agencies within the sports ecosystem.

The Minister expressed optimism that the review’s recommendations would help address critical constraints hindering sectoral growth.

Also speaking at the event, the Head of Institutional Reform at PSRU, Mr. Idrissa Koroma, delivered a detailed presentation on the MFR.

His presentation covered the review’s objectives, thematic focus areas, methodology, limitations, and a summary of findings and recommendations.

The conference marks a pivotal step toward strengthening governance, collaboration and accountability within Sierra Leone’s sports sector.

With PSRU’s support and the Ministry’s commitment to reform, stakeholders are optimistic that the Management and Functional Review will provide a clear roadmap for a more inclusive, better-funded, and performance-driven sports ecosystem ultimately positioning sports as a key driver of national development.
