Sierra Leone and South Korea Seal Unprecedented Education Pact.

Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, Minister of Technical and Higher Education, on 21 April 2026, inked two Memoranda of Understanding with South Korea’s Yeungnam University. The accords pair that institution with Sierra Leone’s Milton Margai Technical University and Eastern Technical University.

These deals advance President Julius Maada Bio’s vision of education as a national development engine. At the ceremony, Dr. Wurie was joined by Permanent Secretary Mohamed Sheick Kargbo and Acting Director Idrissa Sannoh.

She stressed the partnership’s core philosophy: adopting Saemaul Undong Principles, diligence, self-help, cooperation as a practical blueprint for community-driven growth. This strengthens local economies and fosters long-term resilience.

Sustained investment in Technical and Vocational Education and Training, she added, remains vital. It equips youth with market-ready skills, letting them boost the economy and shape the nation’s future. The Minister called the agreements a tangible pledge to empower young people, fortify communities, and speed up national progress.

Dr. Wurie thanked Yeungnam’s President Choi Oe-chool for his leadership, plus Ambassador Paul Sobba Massaquoi and the Sierra Leone Embassy in Seoul for enabling the collaboration.
