Sierra Leone Boxing Association Presents New African Boxing Confederation President to the Ministry of Sports.

In an unprecedented achievement for the nation’s sporting landscape, Mr. Solomon D. Kargbo was formally presented to the Minister of Sports as the newly elected President of the African Boxing Confederation (AFBC). The historic courtesy visit took place on January 7, 2026, at Bishop House in Freetown, led by the Sierra Leone Boxing Association.

Minister Augusta James-Teima celebrated the milestone, stating, “This is the first time Sierra Leone has produced a continental president in African boxing.” She emphasized the significance of Mr. Kargbo’s dual role as President of both the Sierra Leone Boxing Association and the AFBC, calling it a landmark moment for the country.

In her address, Minister Teima expressed profound pride in the achievement, linking it to decades of dedication within the sport. “I feel deeply moved, elated, and proud today especially for boxing,” she said. “Forty years of dedication is no small achievement. This proves that hard work, focus, and commitment truly pay off.”

She stressed that unity within the sporting community remains essential for progress. “There is strength in unity,” the Minister emphasized. “Once unity is broken, strength is lost, and progress becomes impossible.” She also assured that the achievement would be brought to the attention of His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio as a development of national importance.

Minister Teima called on other sporting disciplines to follow boxing’s example, noting that “seriousness, passion, and resilience are key to overcoming challenges.” She urged the boxing community to fully support President Kargbo, whose election she said reflects the confidence placed in him across Africa.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment, the Minister pledged to work closely with the National Sports Authority to advance boxing and enhance Sierra Leone’s presence in international competitions. She announced that a press conference will be held to further amplify the news, affirming, “This achievement must go far and wide—it is good news not only for boxing, but for Sierra Leone as a whole.”
