Sierra Leone sets for second World Expo in Japan, 2025.

The government of Sierra Leone in collaboration with Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs and (MDAs) conveyed a meeting in preparation of participating in the second World Expo slated from April-September,2025, at Osaka ,Japan.

The meeting was held at the National Investment Board Office,New England Villa Freetown, 28th January, 2025. This August meeting was chaired by Dr Edward Hinga Sandy,Executive Director National Investment Board(NIB)

In his opening remarks,he welcomed all members and encouraged the committee to work assiduously and to effectively plan for a successfully participation in 2025 world Expo event.

He outlined the target delegation of 2025 Expo, the sectors that has already been identified and what is expected from them on the National day for Sierra Leone (16th April ,2025).

Mr charlseAngline ,Global communication link State House emphasized the need for proper clarity as to what the Japanese government will be given to Sierra Leone ,considering the limited time frame(like 7-8 weeks )left.

He concluded by saying that there is a need for thorough preparation for our national exhibits and additional information on whether the event will be done outside or inside the cultural village of Osaka city,Japan.

His excellency,Ambassador Abu Karim of the People’s Republic of China who has also been made commissioner for this year’s World Expo 2025 via zoom from China stressed on the need for earlier presence of personnel to be doing the Networking and underground work ahead of the event.

After thorough deliberations and discussions,the following actions point were arrived/agreed upon

•The need to engage the vice president of the Republic of sierra Leone on the 29th January regarding the plans already put together.

•That an official letters be sent to Ministries,Departments and Agencies(MDAs) through the Ministry of foreign Affairs and International Cooperation(MFAIC)

•That key development partners like UNDP,World Bank,UNESCO etc.should be identified and be brought on board.

•That the Ministry of Tourism and cultural Affairs should provide enough brochures,flyers, and posters during the expo event.

•That the members of the planingcommitteee should engage the Ministers of Finance,Tourism and foreign Affairs after an appointment may have been booked with them.

A technical team was set up and they immediately went into action by engaging the Secretary General of UNESCO which is one of their development partners.

In another development,Senior Cultural Officer,IsataConteh, representative of the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, was selected to be part of the technical team of the 2025 World Expo planning committee.

Sierra Leone participation would pave the way to showcases its rich cultural heritage and open doors for tourist to see Sierra Leone as their prime tourist destination.
