the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs held a coordination meeting with development partners to prepare for this year’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV). Led by the Director of Gender, Ms. Marian Goodie Sownie, the meeting focused on community-driven outreach, particularly in rural areas like Makeni.
Ms. Sownie emphasized the need for financial support to expand GBV awareness and engage communities. This year’s campaign will target schools, colleges, and vulnerable areas, focusing on empowering local advocates. Key partners, including the Rainbow Initiative, pledged resources, while others committed to media outreach.
A revived “Real Man” initiative will engage men as allies in the fight against GBV, fostering a comprehensive community response. The 16 Days of Activism will kick off on November 25, 2024, with nationwide campaigns aiming to shift attitudes, prevent violence, and ensure safer communities for all.
With strong partner support, the Ministry is set to amplify Sierra Leone’s commitment to ending violence and promoting safety and respect across all communities.
