SLID and CISA Seal New Pact to Strengthen Sierra Leone Security

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Morie Lengor, has presided over the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Sierra Leone Immigration Department (SLID) and the Central Intelligence and Security Agency (CISA), in a move aimed at deepening cooperation on national security, border management, intelligence and migration.

The agreement was signed at the Ministry of Internal Affairs conference room on Gloucester Street in Freetown. It was presented as a significant step towards closer coordination between the two institutions.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Lengor praised both agencies for strengthening inter-agency cooperation. He said effective intelligence sharing depends on trust, clear rules and responsible handling of sensitive information.

He added that the agreement is expected to improve threat analysis, build institutional capacity, strengthen intelligence exchange and support joint operations in defence of Sierra Leone’s national security interests.

Chief Immigration Officer Dr Moses Tiffa Baio described the MoU as an important step towards addressing long-standing challenges facing the department.

Dr Baio also outlined SLID’s 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, which he said sets out a transformative path for stronger border management and closer institutional cooperation.

CISA Director General Ansumana Mohamed Idriss said that stronger collaboration among security institutions remains essential for responding to evolving threats.

The signing marks renewed commitment by both agencies to work more closely on shared security priorities, with officials expressing confidence that the partnership will deliver more effective coordination and better national protection.
