Statistics Sierra Leone Reinforces Census Readiness with Five Toyota Land Cruisers for Regional Statisticians.

Toyota Land Cruisers, fully licensed and professionally branded, now belong to Regional Principal Statisticians across Sierra Leone. Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) formally transferred these vehicles during a ceremony Wednesday at headquarters, 1B King Street, Kona Lodge. This initiative seeks to bolster monitoring and coordination strategies ahead of the 2026 Population and Housing Census.

Delivering his keynote address, Statistician General Andrew Bob Johnny expressed gratitude to President Julius Maada Bio and the national government for procuring these automobiles despite global economic challenges. He highlighted President Bio’s dedication to decentralization. Johnny further assured staff members that continued resilience would receive institutional follow‑up, enhancing work capacity, logistical support, and overall morale. He underscored rural communities’ role in achieving transformed, data‑driven development for Sierra Leone. Finally, he reiterated commitment to an inclusive, transparent national headcount that decentralizes progress through collective effort and quality evidence.

Council Chairman Moses Williams cautioned beneficiaries while encouraging proper ownership. He noted these vehicles serve primarily pre‑census and post‑enumeration operations.

National Census Coordinator Abdulai Salia Brima observed that population counting remains fundamentally rural‑based; without reliable transportation, success proves impossible. Brima thanked the Council and Statistician General for robust engagement that realized governmental willingness to equip field teams.

Offering a vote of thanks, Amadu Sheriff Principal Statistician for Northern Region applauded the government, Statistician General, and all management for distributing vehicles to five geographic divisions: Northern, North West, Southern, Eastern, and Western Area. On behalf of fellow regional heads, Sheriff guaranteed Stats SL that proper protection, proactive coordination, and efficient census facilitation would characterize their stewardship of these assets.
