In observance of Eid al-Adha, Hon. Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh and his family joined hundreds of worshippers at the Kankalay Islamic Praying Field in Lumpa Waterloo to mark the Festival of Sacrifice.
The Vice President’s presence underscored the importance of unity, faith, and community during this sacred holiday. He stood alongside Islamic leaders, local dignitaries, and community members as they offered the special Eid prayer, reflecting the inclusive and spiritual spirit of the day.
Eid al-Adha, celebrated on the 10th day of Dhul-Hijjah in the Islamic lunar calendar, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command. Tradition holds that Allah replaced Ibrahim’s son with a ram, teaching a lesson in faith and submission.
During his visit, Vice President Jalloh extended heartfelt Eid greetings to Sierra Leone’s Muslim community, thanking them for upholding peace and religious tolerance. He emphasized the holiday’s core values of sacrifice, compassion, and charity, urging citizens to care for one another and to strengthen national unity.
Following the prayers, families prepared for the ritual sacrifice of livestock. The meat is traditionally shared among relatives, friends, and those in need—an act that reminds Sierra Leoneans of the importance of generosity and collective compassion.
The peaceful and joyous gathering in Lumpa stands as a vivid reflection of Sierra Leone’s enduring commitment to religious coexistence and shared celebration.
