The Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE) in partnership with WanGov and Korlie Limited, has announced plans to launch an online payment platform for students in higher educational institutions across Sierra Leone.
The initiative is designed to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accountability in fee payments, enabling students, parents, and sponsors to pay tuition and other charges online through services such as Orange Money, bank transfers, Volt, and Visa.
The system will be integrated with university databases and the national ID platform to ensure accurate and traceable financial transactions.
Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Dr. Ramatulai Wurie, said the project aligns with President Julius Maada Bio’s “Big Five Game Changers,” particularly the pillar on digitization and transparency.
She noted that the new platform would make all transactions traceable and strengthen trust between students and educational institutions.
The Ministry’s Head of ICT, Mr. Edward Sannoh, highlighted the importance of the WanGov system in improving digital service delivery in higher education.
He said MTHE has been engaging stakeholders, conducting technical assessments, and reviewing system gaps to ensure effective and seamless implementation.
Tech Lead of Korlie Limited, Mr. Dugba Kenneh, demonstrated the functionality of the platform and emphasized the need for standardized fee structures across universities to ensure smooth operation.
He added that the system would provide ministry-level access for real-time monitoring, data analysis, and reporting.
The platform is expected to be officially rolled out at the start of the next academic year following consultations with key stakeholders in the education sector.
