Youth Ministry and Milton Margai Technical University Explore Partnership to Empower Non-Formal Youth.

The Minister of Youth Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Sannoh, and his team have held a consultative meeting with Professor Philip John Kanu, Principal of Milton Margai Technical University, to discuss a collaborative initiative focused on empowering young people through skills training.

The meeting centered on the development of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will enable the training of youth without formal education backgrounds. Professor Kanu emphasized the university’s commitment to practical, hands-on learning across its three campuses, highlighting skills development in areas such as climate change, agribusiness, entrepreneurship, digital technology, and cosmetology.

“This initiative targets a vital segment of the population that has often been overlooked, equipping them with the skills to actively contribute to national development,” Prof. Kanu noted.

Minister Sannoh underscored the urgency of the program, warning that failing to empower this group risks creating a “ticking time bomb” for the country. A draft MOU was presented during the meeting, marking an important step toward formalizing the partnership and expanding training opportunities for Sierra Leone’s youth.
