At a spirited convocation ceremony this weekend, Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh underscored a transformative vision for Sierra Leone’s future, anchored in empowered youth and cutting-edge education. Addressing the graduating class of Eastern Technical University (ETU), Dr. Jalloh framed leadership not as a title, but as a conscious choice built on integrity, sacrifice, and service.
“We have equipped you with knowledge and opportunity,” he told the assembled graduands, “but true leadership is earned through character. It is demonstrated in your commitment, your respect for others, and the honesty you bring to every endeavor.”
The Vice President’s address went beyond inspiration, unveiling two substantial investments designed to propel ETU into a new digital age. In a symbolic highlight, he presented the university with the keys to a brand-new bus, a gift aimed at revolutionizing student mobility and connectivity.
Looking to the future, Dr. Jalloh announced an even more ambitious pledge: the construction of a first-of-its-kind modern digital laboratory for Sierra Leone. This state-of-the-art facility promises to provide ETU students with the advanced technological tools necessary to compete and innovate in a global economy.
Reflecting on the institution’s journey from polytechnic to university, the Vice President expressed deep personal pride. “I congratulate each of you on this milestone,” he stated, conveying the warm regards of His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio. He reiterated the government’s unwavering belief that education is the essential foundation for national development, calling it “the decisive path to shaping Sierra Leone’s prospects and future.”
This dual commitment fostering ethical leadership while delivering tangible, modern resources signals a powerful step in bridging opportunity with character, and infrastructure with aspiration, for the next generation of Sierra Leonean leaders.
