The ECOWAS Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture, Nassandje Toure-Litse, accompanied by a high-level delegation, paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED), Madam Kenyeh Barlay, and her Deputy, Rev. Jonathan Titus Williams.
The Commissioner was joined by the ECOWAS Country Representative, Harouna Nusa; Director of Microeconomic Stability, Bobbo Alliusson; and Executive Assistant at ECOWAS, Diarate Bazonnoma.
Welcoming the delegation, Deputy Minister Rev. Jonathan Titus Williams expressed gratitude to the Commissioner and highlighted ECOWAS' critical role and interventions in Sierra Leone’s development. He acknowledged ECOWAS' significant contributions to sustaining peace in the country and assured the delegation of Sierra Leone’s continued commitment to supporting ECOWAS activities and adhering to its protocols.
Commissioner Nassandje Toure-Litse commended the Minister and the Government of Sierra Leone for their steadfast commitment to ECOWAS initiatives. She outlined ECOWAS’ planned interventions, particularly in agriculture, economic affairs, and the blue economy, complementing the government’s efforts. She further emphasised ECOWAS’ commitment to enhancing communication strategies to identify priority areas and develop integrated projects.
In her closing remarks, Commissioner Toure called for a concerted effort among ECOWAS member states to sustain the proposed single currency for West Africa. She concluded the meeting by presenting the 2023 ECOWAS Regional Economic Outlook edition to the Minister and Deputy Minister.
Additionally, Development Secretary 3, Komba Momoh, presented the National Medium-Term Development Plan (MTNDP) 2024-2030 to the Commissioner to align ECOWAS activities with Sierra Leone’s national development agenda.
Minister Barlay appreciated the delegation’s visit and requested increased ECOWAS interventions in Sierra Leone. She reiterated MoPED’s commitment to strengthening collaboration between Sierra Leone and ECOWAS, particularly in governance, agriculture, and socio-economic development.
