H.E Mohammed Barrie Strengthens Sierra Leone-Oman Ties with Historic Credentials Presentation.

Sierra Leone's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Saudi Arabia, accredited to the Sultanate of Oman, His Excellency Mohammed Barrie, presented his Letters of Credence to the Sultan of Oman, His Majesty Haitham bin Tarik Al Said on Wednesday, 11th February 2026.

In a ceremony at the Sultan's palace, Ambassador Barrie conveyed warm greetings from His Excellency the President, Dr Julius Maada Bio, and the people of Sierra Leone to His Majesty and the people of Oman. He expressed President Bio's desire to expand cooperation with Oman in trade and investment, highlighting Oman's advantages in energy, ports and logistics, infrastructure, and private sector development. Ambassador Barrie invited the government and Omani's investors to explore opportunities in Sierra Leone, citing the country's development under the stewardship of President Julius Maada Bio.

The Ambassador's discussion with Sultan Haitham focused on establishing strong bilateral relationships in:

a) Trade and Investment

b) Energy and Mining

c) Agriculture and Fisheries

d) Education and Capacity Building

e) Port Development

The meeting concluded amicably with the Sultan advising the Ambassador to submit project proposals to further develop cooperation.

After the meeting, Ambassador Barrie and Head of Chancery Alhaji Ahmed Tejan Kabba visited the Ministry of Labour Detention camp where three Sierra Leonean maids were held for repatriation in an effort to mitigate their circumstances.

"Due to extenuating circumstances we unanimously agreed that they should return home," the Ambassador said.

The Ambassador described Oman as a business-friendly and cosmopolitan country, highlighting its potential as a partner for Sierra Leone.
