HIGH COMMISSIONER KAISAMBA ATTENDS WAFFEST 2025 IN GHANA, AND ENCOURAGES TEAM SIERRA LEONE.



The High Commissioner of the Republic of Sierra Leone in Accra, Ghana His Excellency, Mohammed Hassan Kaisamba on Wednesday 24th September attended the opening ceremony of the West African Food Festival (WAFFEST) 2025, taking place in Ghana on the theme "The Ghanaian Culinary Experience."


H.E. Kaisamba attended as a way of showing support to the participating chefs from Sierra Leone who are in attendance.


The High Commissioner was accompanied by some diplomatic staff of the High Commission.


The event being held at the La Palm Beach Hotel includes food exhibitions, live cooking shows, cultural performances, and chef competitions among different African countries with the main aim of" celebrating West African cuisine and culture, by bringing together chefs and food enthusiasts from across the continent.

Delivering his keynote address, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts in Ghana is Hon. Hon. Yussif Issaka Jajah expressed gratitude to the organisers, noting that the gathering is not just a festival but a celebration of Africa’s heritage and a testament to the resilience of their culinary traditions in crucial steps forward.


Such an event he mentioned, will attract international attention investors and culinary tourists among others adding that African Culinary is indeed a demonstration of commitment to the food industry.


Hon Jajah called on Africans to stop treating African Cuisine as alternatives, but put it at the top always for utmost prominence by displaying African’s unique hospitality especially in the food industry.


He concluded by encouraging all the participating chefs in this year’s West Africa Food Festival to do proper networking and build relationships across borders, as that will help in the promotion of different recipes and food strategies.


President of the Sierra Leone Chef Association, Abdul Edward Kainessie in his statement commended the organisers of this year’s West Africa Food Festival, calling on all chefs to work together in one accord and continue to promote their industry.


He said since the formation of the Sierra Leone Chef Association in the year 2020, it has been active with a total of 138 members doing extremely well in areas where they find themselves.


Representatives from Chef Associations in different countries that were represented spoke on the important roles that chefs play, the world over and called for unity, and greater expression of their passion and creativity as they carry out their exceptional cooking skills.


Just after the opening ceremony, cuisine of different African countries was displayed during which High Commissioner Mohamed Kaisamba visited the area designated to Sierra Leone, where several Sierra Leonean foods were served and commended the team for a great representation.


He commended the team from Sierra Leone and congratulated them on a great presentation.
