In a ceremony that highlighted community-driven recognition, the Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, was celebrated as “Minister of the Year 2025” by the Marampa Legendary Awards this past Friday evening. The honour underscores his influential leadership and nationwide impact, as chosen by local voices far beyond the capital.
The event, held in Lunsar, Port Loko united a broad cross-section of society from academics and healthcare workers to political figures and philanthropists all gathered to applaud service and dedication.
Upon receiving the award, Minister Bah expressed deep appreciation, emphasizing the significance of being recognized by community-based initiatives. “This award tells us our work is resonating across the country,” he remarked. “What makes it truly special is that it comes from young people leading change in their own communities people who have seen and valued our contribution to their efforts.”
During his address, Bah called on Sierra Leone’s youth to champion unity and actively combat drug abuse. “As a government, we are proud of the role young people play in promoting peace,” he stated. “Despite our differences, Sierra Leone must always come first. Reject violence, and stay away from drugs.”
He also took the opportunity to share significant national news: the establishment of Sierra Leone’s first National Remembrance Day, declared by President Julius Maada Bio. “January 18 will be observed as National Remembrance Day,” Bah announced. “Commemorations will run from January 14 to 21 and will include a nationwide two-minute silence, white ribbons as a symbol of remembrance, and community Remembrance Walls.”
The award not only highlights Minister Bah’s individual contributions but also reflects a growing appreciation for public service that reaches every corner of the nation. It sets a tone of inspiration as Sierra Leone looks toward a future built on recognition, remembrance, and youth empowerment.
