The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation attended in the inaugural Ramadan Iftar program, organized by the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Freetown, alongside representatives from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Morocco, and Turkey.
On March 9, 2025, at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Freetown, Ali Ibrahim A. Alheji, remarked that the sacred month of Ramadan embodies blessings, mercy, charity, and compassion, which are fundamental tenets of Islam.
He highlighted that sharing Iftar together presents a valuable opportunity to strengthen friendships, unity, and cooperation among nations. Ali Ibrahim expressed heartfelt gratitude to all attendees for their support and participation in this gathering.
He extended his sincere appreciation to His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, and the esteemed Government of Sierra Leone for their steadfast support.
He commended Honourable Alhaji Musa Timothy Kabba, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, for his significant contributions to establishing the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Khartoum. Additionally, he recognized the leaders and students of Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, celebrating its legacy as one of West Africa's premier higher education institutions.
Ibrahim prayed, “May the Almighty Allah accept our fasting, prayers, acts of charity, and all good deeds. I hope for the continued peace, progress, and prosperity of our brotherly nation, the Republic of Sierra Leone.” He underscored Ramadan as a month characterized by inner reflection, patience, gratitude, love, humility, and self-restraint, reminding everyone of their duty to support the less fortunate and uphold the values of empathy and compassion.
He urged attendees to cherish every moment of this holy month, emphasizing the importance of wisdom and unity among people of goodwill. “Let us embrace this spirit of generosity and kindness during Ramadan,” he implored.
His Excellency Dr. Khalid Akhsas, Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Freetown, echoed similar sentiments, stating that Ramadan serves as a poignant reminder of the duty to assist the needy and underprivileged, reinforcing essential values of compassion and quality in our interactions.
During his address, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation expressed deep gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, particularly His Majesty King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and His Royal Highness, Prince Muhammad bin Salman, for facilitating the event.
He highlighted significant achievements over the past three years, including the establishment of embassies from Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, underscoring a commitment to fostering robust diplomatic relations across the region.
The Minister reiterated the purpose of the Iftar program, affirming a commitment to the tenets of Islam as commanded by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He described Iftar as a powerful symbol of unity and compassion for humanity.
He noted the gathering’s diverse composition, including representatives from the Christian community and other faiths, exemplifying the nation’s spirit of religious tolerance. He affirmed, “We are confident that the religion perfected by Prophet Muhammad continues to spread, bridging peace and justice.”
The Minister prayed for peace in troubled areas, particularly for those suffering in Palestine, Israel, Syria, and around the globe. His closing remarks underscored the aspiration for a world where peace prevails and where justice, independence, sovereignty, and human rights are universally recognized.
He called on everyone to be peacemakers, promoting harmony in times of discord, asserting that this gathering serves as a testament to solidarity with all of humanity.
