Minister of Information joins Sierra Leone Police to honor Fallen Officers.

The Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, has paid tribute to officers of the Sierra Leone Police who lost their lives in the line of duty, particularly during the country’s civil war, describing them as “brave patriots” who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.

Minister Bah was speaking at an inter-faith prayer service held at the Police Training School in Hastings to commemorate National Remembrance Day. In his address, he praised the courage and dedication of police officers who, he said, have consistently placed themselves in harm’s way to safeguard the country.

“Every day, when others run from danger, you run toward it,” Minister Bah said. “During the war, police officers were deliberately targeted and killed. Yet even in the face of grave threats, you chose to lay down your lives for your country. As Scripture reminds us, there is no greater love.”

He expressed gratitude to the Sierra Leone Police on behalf of President Julius Maada Bio, commending their heroism, courage, and selfless service, and urged officers to remain steadfast in their duty to protect the nation.

The solemn ceremony brought together police personnel, religious leaders, and members of the public. It featured prayers, testimonies from victims and families, and a wreath-laying ceremony in honour of officers who have died in the line of duty. The wreath-laying was led by the Inspector General of Police, Fayia Sellu, who also expressed appreciation for the sacrifices made by police officers in the service of peace and national security.
