Ministry of the Environment Holds Consultation to Launch Climate Data Dashboard Initiative to Strengthen Resilience.

Sierra Leone's Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) has convened a pivotal stakeholder consultation to launch development of a Climate Data-Board. The initiative, developed in partnership with the Directorate of Science, Technology, and Innovation (DSTI) and supported by UNICEF, aims to revolutionize how climate action is coordinated across the nation.

Held at UNICEF Headquarters in Freetown, the one-day engagement brought together Ministries, Departments, Agencies, development partners, and civil society organizations. The proposed digital dashboard represents a strategic leap forward in mapping climate change actors throughout Sierra Leone.

Once operational, the platform will enable systematic data capture and analysis of organizations operating within the climate and environment sector. Participants focused on validating data fields, refining user flow, and assessing overall system functionality during interactive sessions.

Delivering the keynote address, Director of Environmental Emergencies Lahai Samba Keita framed the initiative within Sierra Leone's urgent climate reality. "This engagement extends beyond digital infrastructure; it fundamentally strengthens collaborative response mechanisms," Keita emphasized.

He painted a stark picture of climate impacts confronting communities nationwide: coastal erosion, devastating floods, shifting rainfall patterns, and accelerating environmental degradation. "Addressing these multifaceted challenges demands coordination, accurate information, and robust partnerships across all sectors," the Director affirmed.

Keita characterized the Climate Data Dashboard as a significant advancement in Sierra Leone's environmental management capabilities. Developed collaboratively with DSTI and UNICEF, the tool promises to transform how stakeholders collect, map, analyze, and disseminate climate-related information.

The Director challenged participants to engage meaningfully throughout the consultation process. "Your honest feedback and practical recommendations will shape a tool reflecting our collective commitment to environmental sustainability and strengthened climate resilience," he stated.

The workshop concluded with robust open discussions yielding concrete feedback and actionable recommendations. These contributions will directly inform dashboard development, ensuring the final product meets diverse stakeholder needs while advancing Sierra Leone's climate resilience agenda.
