MoPED, UNFPA Launch New Country Programme in Koinadugu and Falaba Districts.

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED), in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the District Development Coordinating Committee (DDCC), officially launched the UNFPA Country Programme for Sierra Leone (2025–2030) in Koinadugu and Falaba Districts.

The launch, held at the Koinadugu District Council Hall, brought together key stakeholders from government ministries, local councils, and development partners to reinforce collaborative efforts in advancing reproductive health, gender equality, and youth empowerment.

In his opening remarks, Koinadugu District Council Chairman, Mr. Lawrence Teteh Kargbo, thanked MoPED for establishing the DDCC, describing it as a strategic tool for coordinated development. He praised UNFPA for its continued support in addressing local challenges and pledged the district’s full commitment to development initiatives.

Host Paramount Chief Gbawuru Mansaray III echoed these sentiments, calling on all local stakeholders to work in unity to attract and sustain development.

Representing the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, Mr. Vandy emphasized the DDCC’s role in decentralizing development through inclusive and accountable community engagement.

Development Secretary Mr. Ambrose James urged communities to take ownership of the DDCC process. He highlighted its alignment with the National Medium-Term Development Plan (2024–2030) and thanked development partners for supporting local structures that ensure transparency, accountability, and equal distribution of national resources.

UNFPA Country Representative, Madam Sibeso Mululuma, emphasized the transformative role of the Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CAHLS) curriculum, particularly in tackling teenage pregnancy. She underscored its importance in building life skills and empowering youth to make informed choices.

Deputy Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Mrs. Emily Gogra, encouraged communities to embrace opportunities that safeguard the future of children. She acknowledged UNFPA’s support in advancing quality education and reaffirmed her Ministry’s commitment to collaboration and capacity building in underserved areas.

The event concluded with strong assurances of continued support from UNFPA and government partners to implement impactful programmes in Koinadugu, Falaba, and beyond.
