The Ambassador of Sierra Leone to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia His Excellency Mohammed S. Barrie, Deputy Ambassador Abdul Aziz Turay, and Sierra Leone's Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Alhaji Mohamed Haji-Kella, on Saturday, 31st May 2025, accompanied the second batch of 300 Sierra Leonean home-based pilgrims to perform "Ziyarah" at Masjid Quba.
The Masjid is a site of great significance as the first mosque built by Prophet Muhammad after his migration from Makkah.
Two Rakat prayers offered at the Quba Mosque are believed to be equivalent to one Umrah, which is a lesser Hajj.
The pilgrims also visited the Uhud Martyrs Square, a historic landmark commemorating the Battle of Uhud, which took place in the third year of the Prophet's migration to Madinah.
The second batch of home-based pilgrims will depart Madinah on Sunday, June 1, 2025, for Makkah, to participate in the 1446/2025 Hajj, a five-day event scheduled from June 4th to 9th, 2025.
A total of 2,000 Sierra Leonean pilgrims, plus 100 beneficiaries of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Program for Hajj, are performing this year's Hajj.
