SEND Sierra Leone, UNDP, and the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs Commemorate Certification of Young Women in STEM.

Representing the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs at the ceremony, Mr. Charles Vardy commended SEND Sierra Leone, UNDP, and partners for their strategic intervention in empowering young women.

Delivering remarks on behalf of the Minister of Gender, Mr Charles Vandy reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to inclusivity, referencing Part 3 of the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) Act, which mandates 30% representation of women across all sectors.

He further noted that such initiatives align with the Government’s Medium-Term National Development Plan (2024–2030), which identifies gender mainstreaming as a key driver of national progress.

Other speakers echoed the call for stronger partnerships to close gender gaps in STEM, highlighting the critical role of women in driving innovation, education, and renewable energy solutions.

The event concluded with the formal presentation of certificates and start-up kits to the graduates, equipping them with recognition and tools to transform their training into real-world opportunities.

This initiative reflects the collective commitment of government, development partners, and civil society to building a more inclusive and sustainable future—one where young women in Sierra Leone are empowered to thrive in STEM and lead in renewable energy development.
