Sierra Leone, Bahrain Discuss Collaboration in Education.

Her Excellency Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, Minister of Technical and Higher Education of the Republic of Sierra Leone, met with His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education of the Kingdom of Bahrain, to share a broad range of initiatives to foster partnership in the field of education between the two countries.

In his remarks, Dr. Juma welcomed the Honourable Minister and delegation, expressing delight in sharing Bahrain’s transformative and sustainable pathways to develop a quality education ecosystem. He pointed out the Ministry’s primary focus was on early childhood, school education, and polytechnic education, highlighting a number of projects aimed at developing education, technical and vocational training, and higher education.

The Bahraini Minister further disclosed that the Ministry of Education was constantly working to develop curricula, enhance teachers' skills, and expand digital learning opportunities, ensuring modern learning environments that would provide equal opportunities for all students. These efforts, he noted, would empower learners to pursue higher education or integrate effectively into the labour market.

Senior officials in the Ministry of Education delivered presentations on Bahrain’s educational transformation, bordering on its rich history, regional and international success stories, research and development, technology, technical and vocational education, training and equipping teachers, as well as the policy framework.

In her statement, Dr Haja Ramatulai Wurie revealed that Sierra Leone was keen on exploring partnership opportunities to develop the country’s education sector, particularly tertiary education, technical and vocational education and polytechnic. She thanked the Minister for the excellent hospitality and the opportunity to learn from Bahrain, especially in higher education and technical and vocational learning.

The Honourable Minister explained Sierra Leone’s ambitious project to develop the human capital of which education was fundamental, adding that investing and leveraging technology and digitisation to improve education with particular focus on women’s empowerment was central to His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s Big Five Game Changers. The Honourable Minister highlighted several strategic initiatives, including the establishment of open distance learning and the National School of Postgraduate Studies, to build a sustainable system. She called for strategic collaboration to create impactful opportunities that could benefit both countries.

Dr. Wurie visited the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Salman Institute of Technology and the Bahrain Polytechnic to get information on the country’s successful implementation of Technical and Vocational Education (TVE). The institutes offer a range of technical and vocational education programs to equip students with practical skills and knowledge in various fields, including Artificial Intelligence and robotics, graphics, and technology, mechanical engineering, renewable energy generation, among others, designed to ensure that students are well-prepared for the workforce and can contribute effectively to the technological and industrial development of Bahrain.

Accompanying the Honourable Minister were Her Excellency Haja Ishata Thomas, Non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Mr. Mohamed Sheikh Kargbo, Permanent Secretary and Mr. George Dambo, Student Secretary, Ministry of Technical and Higher Education, Mr. Abu Bakarr Ismail Mbayoh, Third Secretary/Arabic Translator, Embassy of Sierra Leone in the State of Kuwait.
