VP Juldeh Jalloh Breaks Silence on Viral Video, Urges Unity and Tolerance.

VP Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has called for calm, understanding, and religious tolerance after a viral video circulated on social media in which an imam appears to warn that Muslims who accept Christmas wishes or food from Christians risk hell. The remarks sparked national debate in a country long celebrated for peaceful interfaith coexistence.

Addressing the issue at a Saturday gathering at the Tabligh Mosque in Macdonald, the Vice President spoke from both human and societal perspectives, urging religious leaders to promote messages that unite rather than divide. He underscored that religious teachings from the Quran or the Bible should reflect the values of the society in which people live and highlighted Sierra Leone’s global reputation for religious tolerance and peace.

Dr. Juldeh Jalloh emphasized the deep, everyday bonds between Muslims and Christians in Sierra Leone. He described neighbors as brothers and sisters who share daily life, participate in social events, attend one another’s ceremonies, mourn together in times of loss, celebrate together in moments of joy, and offer mutual support across faith lines ties he called central to the country’s national identity.

The Vice President urged humility among religious leaders, reminding them that no one holds a monopoly on knowledge or interpretation. He advocated for ongoing consultation, continuous learning, and moderation when addressing sensitive religious issues that could affect social harmony. He asserted that religious leaders should embody patience, wisdom, and respect in their leadership roles.

Concluding his remarks, VP Jalloh urged all religious leaders to continue promoting peace and tolerance, reiterating that Sierra Leone’s strength lies in unity—one people, one nation. He reaffirmed that protecting the country’s long-standing tradition of religious harmony is a shared responsibility for leaders and citizens alike.
