National Coastal Unity Boat Race united 16 shoreline communities April 4-5, 2026, at Chapter One Beach Front. Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, partnering with GEED Foundation, orchestrated this vibrant competition. Crowds gathered to cheer, sing, and dance, rallying behind neighborhood crews.
Kissy Ferry Terminal claimed overall victory, securing NLe 50,000. Susan’s Bay earned first runner‑up honors; Moa Wharf took second runner‑up position. Robust community participation and visible pride demonstrated how cultural gatherings strengthen national solidarity.
Minister Nabeela Farida Tunis called for deeper stakeholder collaboration to expand Sierra Leone’s tourism sector. Ekundayo Walton Gilpin observed that such initiatives spotlight rich cultural heritage while fostering inclusivity and resilience among coastal populations.
Festivities included creative flag awards and performances from local entertainers. This celebration aligns with Ministry’s 2026 “Year of Culture and Creativity” campaign and Sierra Leone’s 65th Independence anniversary.
