MTCA, NTB & Partners Stage Annual Kite Flying Festival.

The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, National Tourist Board and partners, Sierra Leone Commercial Bank, Eminence Africa, One Love Salone Foundation have staged the maiden edition of the Annual Kite Frying Festival at Gigibonta Car Park, Lumley Beach in Freetown. The fun-filled event drew youth and adults to an exciting kite flying competition, underscoring the need to rekindle traditional games and engaging youths in productive activities.
Permanent Secretary, Edward Kwame Yankson explained that the Kite Flying Competition was aimed at reviving Kite flying culture during Easter and Independence season, as well as mitigating harmful youthful practices by engaging them in exciting and productive activities.
General Manager, National Tourist Board reiterated the remarks of PS. Yankson, adding that the National Tourist Board is pleased to be part of this interesting session.
Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Tunis did not let this interesting moment pass by, as she rekindled the good old days by flying her Kite high into the sky. She assured that the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs is poised to bringing back traditional games and encouraged all to the ecoconcious.
Kelvina J. Peath won the price of 10,000 Leones for best designed Kite, while Samuel Kamara won 5,000 Leones for flying his Kite the farthest. Attractive prices of 25kg rice were won by other participants for answering questions on ecotourism related questions.
